Staying Relevant on Social Media: Facebook

Facebook jagged edge copyYou are a business. You have a Facebook Page. You have invited your Facebook friends to join your page. Now it’s time to get social!

To stay relevant in social media you need to not only be posting, but also reposting, liking and commenting on the posts of others on all your social media channels. I am a firm believer in being extremely social on all social networks. This means you share your content and you find others who are either in line with your business focus, somehow interesting to your business or competitors. You need to know what is happening in their worlds! So how do you find these other business pages?

Open your Facebook Page [FB] and start searching for others with similar focuses or somehow have a connection. Be creative. Start with what you know and then continue to extend your reach. When you find interesting FB Pages “like” them. This ensures their information will end up in your FB News Feed so you can see what they are up to. This is how you create your social network. Keep networking! And networking!

Monitor your FB News Feed on a regular basis. When you see one of the FB Pages you have liked posting content that you think is important to your network you should do one of the following things:

1. Like the post [least impactful]. To simply like a post you click on the “thumbs up” icon.

2. Comment on the post [more impactful]. To comment on a post, click “comment” on the FB post. Write your comment and you are done.

3. Share the post [most impactful]. To share a post you need to click “share” on the post. Then this comes up:

Now you can add your own comment where is says “write something”. You do not have to add your own comment. Lastly you click on the “share link” button on the bottom right.

I am the founder of Boulder Families. I live in Boulder, Colorado with my husband and 2 boys. We love to travel, ski, do puzzles, be in the mountains and at the beach, and just spend time together. You can find my boys [not me] jumping off tall cliffs into the ocean or onto a steep run at Vail or some other ski area.
